BIG CAT HABITAT IS NOW OPEN FIVE DAYS A WEEK
For the first time, Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary will open for tours
and educational animal demonstrations Tuesday through Sunday.
SARASOTA, Fla., Mar. 7, 2011 – Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary, a nonprofit safe haven for big cats, bears and other animals in need, will be open five days a week for the first time.
In addition to its tours and educational animal demonstrations starting at 12:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the habitat now is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 4 p.m. for tours, and a petting zoo is available for children. Refreshments also are available. The tours will feature the habitat’s exotic residents including lions, tigers, bears, primates, camels, lemurs, birds and a host of other animals.
Donations for admission are $12 for adults and $7 for children.
Funds from the tours and demonstrations provide for the care of Big Cat Habitat’s exotic and other animals that traditional shelters will not take, according to Kay Rosaire, who founded Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary. The educational demonstration includes the habitat’s own lions and tigers, which are trained by the Rosaire family with a combination of gentle handling, praise and treats.
